1. Develop confidence. This is the single most important component of any free sparring lesson; you can't fight without it. It could be said that it is the key to survival. Only through practice and application can a student realize that self-defense skills are not only attainable, but that they can work realistically in an attack situation. 2. Do not be concerned about pain. A preoccupation with it will inhibit development. 3. Relax, this will allow your movement to be more effective and lessen your chances to be kicked or punched.
5. When your opponent attacks you, do not be satisfied with a successful dodge or block. Counter immediately.
7. Cover or guard your own vital spots. Don't get sloppy.
9. Move whenever your opponent
attacks either in, out, or to the side, but move.
